Every Skinner and Leatherworker knows the importance of Cobra Scales. These are needed to make various items such as Cobrascale Gloves, Cobrascale Hood, Nethercobra Leg Armor, Cobrahide Leg Armor, and different Stylin’ Hats.
That’s why there’s a huge demand for Cobra Scales all the time. A single Cobra Scale could fetch around 30gold each in the Auction House. Not too mention if you’re a Leatherworker, you could make a lot more if you use it to make items. Cobrahide Leg Armor is priced at 250gold while Nethercobra Leg Armor is priced at 550gold. Who said that Leatherworkers don’t earn much?
There are only three types of monster that Cobra Scales can be skinned from. These are Shadow Serpent and Coilskar Cobra of Shadowmoon Valley; and Twilight Serpent of Nagrand.
Of the three mobs, you should focus on the Twilight Serpent. They are found in Twilight Ridge which is located west of Camps Hate and Fear. Best of all, Twilight Serpents are yellow mobs therefore you don’t have to fear of accidentally drawing aggro. It’s not only Cobra Scales that can be skinned from them but also Knothide Leather as well.
I suggest that you do your farming along with the Gaining the Advantage quest. This could be accepted from Emissary Mordin in Shattrath City. Then you could skin the Twilight Serpents for Nether Residue as well.
If the first spot is crowded, you could try going to Shadowmoon Valley for the Shadow Serpents. They share the same drop rate as the Twilight Serpents plus the area is full of Enraged Air Spirits as well. Not only do you get Cobra Scales, but you can farm for Motes of Air at the same time. In a hour, you could get around 1 to 3 Cobra Scales and at least a couple of Primal Airs. The serpents share spawn point with scorpids so you have to kill the scorpids in the area as well.
As for the Coilskar Cobras, they are located at the Coilskar Point in Shadowmoon Valley. If it’s your first time in the area, you can do the escort quest, Escape from Coilskar Cistern, inside the cave. Earthmender Wilda does a lot of DPS, so all you have to do is skin her kills.
Cobra Scales could be the most lucrative item that a skinner can farm. Grinding for this item will be the best thing you can do since you’ve rolled a skinner. If you’re a Leatherworker as well then say hello to easy WoW gold.
